Inter have officially announced that sporting director Piero Ausilio has left the club after a 28-year association and have named his former deputy Dario Baccin as the club’s new chief sports officer.

Ausilio leaves Inter after 28 years with the club, having joined as a secretary in the youth department in the late 1990s before working his way all the way up to the role of first-team sporting director by 2014, a role he has held ever since.
In that time, Inter have won the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana three times each and have also reached the Champions League final on two occasions and the Europa League final once.
“After 28 unforgettable years, the most difficult moment has arrived: saying goodbye to what has never been just a team to me, but a second skin,” Ausilio wrote in a farewell message posted on the club website.
“In almost three decades, I have given Inter every second of my life, every ounce of energy and every heartbeat.
“Inter is in my blood; it is the air I have breathed every day. My deepest and most heartfelt thanks go to you, the fans, the beating heart of this shirt, who have accompanied and supported me throughout this endless journey.
“I am leaving this role, but I will never be able to separate myself from these colours. Today does not simply mark the end of a professional chapter: it means leaving behind a piece of my soul at the place I have loved most.”
Nerazzurri President Beppe Marotta added: “I would like to thank Piero on behalf of the entire Club, the ownership and every single employee in the great Nerazzurri family. Piero and I have shared moments of joy, victories, intense work and enormous passion.”
Ausilio’s departure comes the day after the close of the 2026 summer transfer window: A session that saw the Nerazzurri recruit three England internationals in John Stones, Djed Spence and Curtis Jones as well as buying Aleksander Stankovic back from Club Brugge.
He was into the final year of his contract at San Siro, and according to reports on Wednesday morning, it had become evident that an agreement over a contract extension was not going to arrive.
Inter have since confirmed that Ausilio’s long-standing deputy, Baccin, will take over in the new role of chief sports officer.
“Dario knows the club well and is now ready to take on this new role that the ownership and I have designed for him. It is an innovative choice, albeit in the name of managerial continuity,” Marotta commented.
“Dario has been a fundamental part of the technical area for many years and is the manager who worked on the creation of the Under 23 team in close connection with the First Team with a view to the progressive and sustainable development of the Club”.
