The Coppa Italia Round of 32 is now at the halfway stage, and Udinese and Sassuolo will be progressing to the next stage of the competition following victories over Venezia and Frosinone respectively on Wednesday evening.
Sassuolo were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Frosinone over the 90 minutes of their round of 32 tie on Wednesday evening: Benja Dominguez and Aleksa Terzic coming up with the goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half.
At this stage of the competition, ties that result in draws after 90 minutes progress straight to penalties.
Sassuolo went second in the shoot-out and saw all four of their spot-kicks go in in an eventual 4-3 penalty win. Domenico Berardi, Sebastiano Esposito, Kristian Thorstvedt and Darryl Barkola all successfully converted. Wisdom Amey and Luis Hasa missed the crucial fourth and fifth spot-kicks for Frosinone.
Udinese, meanwhile, got the job done in 90 minutes at home against newly-promoted Serie A side Venezia.
The visitors opened the scoring through Richi Sagrado after nine minutes at the Bluenergy Stadium. Udinese have Vakoun Bayo to thank for his brace, scored in the 34th and 53rd minutes, which has sent them through to the Round of 16.
Monza have also made it through to the Coppa Italia Round of 16 thanks to a 1-0 win away against Torino on Tuesday evening, as have Cremonese, who upset Parma with a 2-0 win at the Stadio Tardini last night.
