Italy international Matteo Ruggeri has agreed personal terms with Aston Villa, ready to fly out for his medical in a transfer from Atletico Madrid worth €25m plus €1.5m add-ons.
The 24-year-old was a product of the Atalanta youth academy and only made the move to Atletico Madrid last summer for €17m plus up to €3m in performance-related bonuses.

Now 12 months on and he has increased his value, with Aston Villa paying €25m plus a further €1.5m in add-ons.
The two clubs had shaken hands several days ago, but it took until this evening for Ruggeri to agree on personal terms and give the all-clear.
Fabrizio Romano confirms the player can now fly out to Birmingham for medical tests and to sign the contracts over the next few days.
Ruggeri made 47 competitive appearances in the Atletico Madrid jersey and contributed seven assists for his teammates.
Although he has been called up by the Italy squad, he is yet to make his senior debut.
This move also means that Aston Villa are no longer interested in securing Pervis Estupinan from Milan, as they play very similar roles at right-back and left-back.
