Yann Bisseck has welcomed the arrival of John Stones at Inter, insisting the England defender will raise the standards of the entire backline rather than pose a threat to his own place.
With quotes from La Gazzetta dello Sport, via TuttoMercatoWeb, the Germany international, fresh from signing a contract extension until 2031, embraced the increased competition brought by what will end up as a busy summer of defensive change at San Siro.
“It’s right that it’s this way. We’re Inter, not just any club,” Bisseck said. “It’s normal for a squad like ours to be full of good players, and internal competition stops you relaxing.”

Central to that view is the calibre of the new man. “When a high-profile player walks into the dressing room, it’s always a positive,” Bisseck said.
“Stones will force the other defenders to raise their level, and as a result the team’s performance improves.” Asked whether he risked more time on the bench, the centre-back was unfazed: “I don’t see the problem. There are lots of matches, lots of competitions, there’ll be room for everyone. I’m not worried at all.”
On his own renewal, Bisseck was equally content, playing down the significance of fresh terms for a club he never wanted to leave.
“The extension is good news, but it doesn’t change how I feel about playing for this team,” he said. “I chose Inter because I liked the club and the city, and I never thought about changing shirts. I’ve never lacked the club’s trust.”
