Liverpool leave Inter target Curtis Jones out of their squad today, but the Nerazzurri might have to sell Aleksandar Stankovic to pay for the England international.
The Nerazzurri have been chasing the midfielder for many months, already seeing a January bid rejected, and hoped that the asking price would drop this summer considering his contract only runs to June 2027.
However, Liverpool are still demanding €40m for the sale and will not budge from that figure, even though the player is known to be eager for the transfer to San Siro.
Liverpool drop Jones to give Inter hope
There might’ve been a sign today with news that Jones was not even on the bench for their friendly match against AS Monaco at Anfield.
Transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano calls this ‘a precaution’ with several clubs interested in signing him.
Meanwhile, La Gazzetta dello Sport warn that the best way Inter can find the funds for Jones is by selling youth product Stankovic, who has impressed in pre-season.
Stankovic was sold to Club Brugge last summer, but Inter activated the buy-back clause worth €23m.
It was reported this week that they had turned down a €40m proposal from Brentford for the Serbia international, but if that is increased, he could be sacrificed to bring in Jones.
