The future of Hakan Calhanoglu will be a hot topic throughout the year for Inter, and the brass is earmarking possible replacements should he leave at the end of his contract: Adrian Bernabé, Frank Anguissa, and Mateo Kovacic, TuttoSport informs.
The Parma staple is in the same contractual situation. The negotiation is moving slowly, also because of his early injury problems and the team’s results. The Ducali have already opted for a coaching change.
Inter would have an advantage over other sides if they decided to pursue Bernabé. Christian Chivu coached him for a few months two seasons ago, with mutual satisfaction. The former Barcelona and Manchester City product has been in Italy since 2021, racking up 146 appearances, 19 goals, and 12 assists.
The Nerazzurri are eyeing some veterans as well. Anguissa appears likely to depart Napoli for zilch at the moment. Kovacic could do the same, as he’s not been a regular at Manchester City under Enzo Maresca. He spent time with the Nerazzurri between 2012 and 2015.
As for Calhanoglu, the Scudetto champions are plotting to offer him a lower salary than his current one, although with add-ons tied to appearances and objectives. It remains to be seen whether the Turk will take it or pursue a richer payday.
Our Take on Inter, Bernabé, Anguissa, and Kovacic
The Parma starlet has often been slowed down by injuries and, while he has shown flashes of real class, he has yet to do it consistently enough to earn a move to a super-duper team. Still, he’d be a big bargain for free and wouldn’t be the alone in trying to succeed Calhanoglu if they keep Piotr Zielinski and Aleksandar Stankovic.
