Hakan Calhanoglu was not named in Cristian Chivu’s matchday squad for Inter’s 5-3 comeback victory over Udinese on Monday evening, and reports on Tuesday indicate that he is at a high risk of missing the top-of-the-table clash against Roma this coming weekend as well.
Calhanoglu a strong doubt for Roma vs. Inter
Goals from Carlos Augusto, Nicolo Barella, Marcus Thuram, Pio Esposito and Ange-Yoan Bonny gave Inter a 5-3 victory over Udinese in San Siro on Monday evening, despite the fact that the Nerazzurri had trailed 2-0 after the first 16 minutes.
Chivu went with a midfield three of Barella, Piotr Zielinski and Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the night, introducing Curtis Jones and Aleksandar Stankovic from the subs bench in the second half.
Calhanoglu was not named in the matchday squad due to adductor fatigue.
According to the latest updates from La Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday morning, Calhanoglu will have further assessments carried out this afternoon, but as things stand, there is a large chance that he is not able to play against Roma this Saturday either.
Inter also lost England international John Stones to injury midway through the Udinese clash on Monday night and he is also expected to miss out on the Roma clash this weekend. He is likely to return after the international break.
Saturday’s game against Roma is a key clash in the race for the 2026-27 Serie A title given that the Nerazzurri and Giallorossi are the only two sides in the division with their 100% win records still intact. That will come to an end at the Stadio Olimpico at 17.00 BST on Saturday evening.
