Federico Chiesa missed Liverpool’s first Premier League match of the season through injury, but given that opportunities are set to be rare again for the former Italy international in 2026-27, the latest reports indicate that he will be allowed to leave if appropriate offers come in.
Liverpool expected to allow Chiesa to leave
Chiesa is now into his third season with Liverpool after joining from Juventus in the summer of 2024.
The former Azzurri star, who has not turned out for Italy since EURO 2024, has struggled for opportunities ever since his arrival at Anfield, especially in his first season when he was limited to just 104 minutes of top-flight action across six appearances; his only start coming after Liverpool had already been confirmed as Premier League champions at the end of the 2024-25 season.
The 2025-26 campaign started more encouragingly when Chiesa found the back of the net in the first week of the season in a 4-2 victory over AFC Bournemouth, and though he was used more regularly in his second season, he was again only trusted to start once across 38 Premier League matches.
Despite the departure of head coach Arne Slot and legendary winger Mohamed Salah this summer, Chiesa is still expected to struggle for minutes in 2026-27 if he stays at Liverpool.
They have brought in Victor Munoz this summer and are still hoping to bring in Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. Chiesa also finds himself behind the likes of Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz and teenager Rio Ngumoha in the pecking order at Anfield.
And now, according to recent reports from the MailOnline, Liverpool are expected to let Chiesa leave if appropriate offers come in.
For Chiesa, who is currently unavailable through injury, finding a new club may still be an issue.
Chiesa reportedly earns a net salary of around €6m per season with bonuses included and as per Calciomercato.com, this will rule the majority of Serie A clubs out of the race of signing the former Juventus and Fiorentina man.
Liverpool are also expected to command a fee of around €15m for Chiesa, who is under contract for another two years until the summer of 2028.
As things stand, there have not been any formal offers for the 28-year-old.
