New Italy coach Roberto Mancini and technical director Claudio Ranieri will hold their first press conference tomorrow at 18:00 CET, Giovanni Malagò announced.
Mancini is set to return as Italy’s head coach for a second stint, Malagò confirmed during a press conference on Tuesday.

“It is very positive that both Roberto Mancini and Claudio Ranieri have behaved with great sensibility on the budget issues that need to be taken into consideration,” Malagò said.

The press conference took place after a FIGC federal meeting, during which Malagò informed members that he had picked Mancini as the new head coach.
“Time is short, your curiosity as the media also pushed us to hurry, and I evaluated the person who should become the new coach of Italy is Roberto Mancini, for a whole list of reasons,” Malagò added.
“I take responsibility for those, but I want to clarify that this does not change the new culture and role of a technical director at Club Italia.
“That is not to be confused with other roles. It is what Paolo Maldini had agreed to, and you must realise that we made a fundamental modification of the statute for Club Italia. Until now, the FIGC President had been the only figure who could lead the Club Italia, so this is a cultural shift.”
Mancini and Ranieri will hold a press conference tomorrow, Wednesday, July 29.
“The person I share that vision with is Claudio Ranieri, who a few minutes ago guaranteed he would take the role. He is the person who will take this very important and delicate role. We already spoke on the phone, and tomorrow there will be a press conference with both Roberto Mancini and Claudio Ranieri at 18.00,” said the FIGC President.
Mancini already coached Italy from 2018 to 2023, winning Euro 2020, which was played in 2021, but also failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
He suddenly stepped down in August 2023, becoming the Saudi Arabia national team coach just a few weeks later.
A recent poll said that over 80% of people in Italy believe Mancini is not the right man for the job.
“Of course I took that into account,” Malagò concluded.
“I won’t say what he will talk about, but I assume he’ll discuss this in tomorrow’s press conference. I have taken all of this into consideration.”
