The negotiation between Inter and Tottenham for Djed Spence isn’t going as the suitors had hoped. They are starting to back away and contemplate different options, Mediaset reports.
For now, the Spurs haven’t budged from a humongous request, €47M. The Nerazzurri are unwilling to splurge that heavily for the English international, even though they do like him. Instead, they are further exploring the Cristian Romero deal, who wants to leave London.
If Inter can’t find common ground with Tottenham for Spence relatively soon, they’ll rekindle their interest in Guela Doué. He has resisted among their main fail-safes throughout the summer. He’s not cheap either, and BlueCo’s plans for him could be a factor. He has registered 3 goals and 9 assists in 68 games with RC Strasbourg.
Nahuel Molina have been routinely attached to a few Serie A outfits, even though Atletico Madrid aren’t itching to let him go. He has a short-term contract, though.
Oaktree would likely prefer to invest in a younger player. Monaco’s Vanderson and especially Feyenoord’s Givairo Read would better fit what the owners generally seek when greenlighting big offers. The latter burst onto the scene a couple of seasons ago and has hit the net 5 times and dished out 11 helpers in 54 appearances.
Our Take on Inter and Spence
It’d be a bit questionable if they spent around €50M on a 28-year-old defender, where they need somebody but not necessarily a top-shelf contributor, rather than in a younger winger-back, which is the only real hole in their squad. It’s fair to be judicious, but it’s starting to turn into a wild-goose chase where they seem at the mercy of the other teams and not really in control.
